FORWARD, Always
This piece centers around the civil rights movement in the 1960s, asking the question, what is the pace of change? Who leads progress in society, and why them? What is the labor and effort necessary to create true and meaningful change? This piece focuses on imagery from the civil rights marches in the 1960s and creating choreography that centers the philosophies of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.
The title, ‘FORWARD, Always’, borrows from Obama‘s 2012 campaign slogan and the quote from Dr. Martin Luther King that says “… my friends, all I’m trying to say is that if we are to go FORWARD today, we’ve got to go back and rediscover some mighty precious values that we’ve left behind”.
